Why we built Mya'Shield
We're Mariessa and Evan, a husband and wife filmmaking team. To the kids in our family, we're Auntie Reesa and Uncle Evan.
Our work has taken us to remote places all over the world, and we've seen how quickly things can go wrong. Silently, suddenly, and in ways designed to go unnoticed.
We wanted to give our own family an extra layer of protection. Not a gadget for staring at a map all day, but something that would let someone know the moment anything seemed out of the ordinary.
We couldn't find it. The trackers we looked at were too visible, too unreliable, or relied on a parent glued to their phone. So we started building Mya'Shield ourselves.
What matters to us
We didn't want another app that has you watching a dot on a map. Mya'Shield is meant to stay in the background and only speak up when something looks wrong.
It had to be private. Mya'Shield's signals are encrypted, and there's no Bluetooth beacon announcing where it is.
It had to notice the things a map can't show you, like your child stopping moving for longer than expected, or things getting too hot where they are.
It had to be something kids actually want to wear, which is why every child gets to design their own superhero.
And it had to be fair on price, so there's no subscription required and no activation fee.
Mya'Shield isn't a tech company chasing a market. It's a family that solved its own problem and decided to share the solution.
We'll use this blog for safety tips we use ourselves, things we learn along the way, and news as Mya'Shield gets closer to launch. You can also follow along on Instagram and TikTok at @mya.shield, and on X at @MyaShieldAlert.
Safety at heart,
Mariessa and Evan
